My dear Mother

We are just out again and with any

luck shall not go in again for about

a month. We have done just a month

in + out of the trenches, this last time

we were in for 9 days - 4 days in

support + 5 days in the firing line.

I wish I could tell you where it was

but I shall only get the letter torn up

by Old Man Censor! Anyway it was a

very well known place and a very

hot corner + I am glad to say I got

through this time without having any

more casualties in the platoon. It was

really a most astounding thing as the

company we relieved had lost a good many.

In on place the Huns were only about 80 yds

away and they were also holding a small

crater in front of their line the front

edge of which was only about 35 or 40 yds

distant from us. We were fairly safe from

shells as the lines were so close together
