John Johnson's discharge document from first period of service with the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment on 5.10.1906
Civil Employment.
A Register for civili employment is kept at the Head Qrs. of Regimental and
Recruiting Districts, in which are names the names of the men of good sharacter discharged
or transferred to the Army Reserve, and reside in the Regimental District. Applications
for registry should be made to the Officer commanding the Regimental District within one
year of Discharge or transfer to the Reserve.

Enlistment into Section D., 1st class Army Reserve.
Men who have been discharged on termination of their first period of limited engagement,
from any arm of the Service may be enlisted fro Sec. D. 1st Class A.R. for four years,
within two years from the date of their discharge. Cavalry men will be enlisted on the
understanding that, on mobilization, they wil be liable for employment as officers' grooms,
or as drivers, either in the Cavalry or in any other arm of the Service. In the case of Infantry
or Artillery Reserve, men discharge with characters other then "Bad" or "Very Bad" will
be eligible for enlistment. In other arms of the Service only those will be eligible who
received at least a "Good" character on discharge.________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Re-enlistment in the Militia.
Men discharged from the Army with not less than two years' service can re-enlist in the
Militia of the County in which they reside on advantageous conditions, which will be
communicated to them by the Adjutant on application.
Pamphlets showing the conditions and advantages of the Militia are supplied gratis at
every Post Office, or by any Serjeant Instructor of Volunteers or ther Recruiter._________________________________________________________________________________________________________
