Kitchener and the Seven Hundred
----
The Loss of H.M.S. HAMPSHIRE
June 5th, 1916.
----
By REV. J. MOUNTAIN, D.D.
----
----
'Mid raging Northern billows
The Hampshire ploughs her way;
Her guns are bathed in sea-foam,
Her masts are dashed with spray,
When swiftly strikes her death-blow,
No human arm can save;
Seven hundred British heroes
Sink 'neath the 'whelming wave!
No cheek is blanched with terror,
No heart is stopped by fright;
Calm, resolute and fearless
In drowning or in fight,
Seven hundred gallant seamen
Whose courage none outvie,
Who lived for King and Country,
Now gladly for them die!
