16th Jan. Sunday
Sketched morning and afternoon . Received letter from Mrs (Basil) Phillips
dated 12th November. Card from J. Hughes dated 20-11-15; one from Morris
(Bank) dated 11th November and 5 from Lizzie dated 8th, 11th, 15th, 18th,
29th November. Feeling very tired, having dinner and going straight to bed.
17th Jan
Sketched a little only, it was too cold to sit out. Went after dinner to
see natives going through their religious performances- has cinnamon at
one man's house. Some Australians sang in the drawing room after dinner.
18th Jan
Sketched best part of the day but it turned cold about 3 p.m. so gave it
up. Hotel full of people including Generals, Staff Officers, Naval
Commanders and Price Alexander of Battenburg- some officers including
Parry of the 7th R.W.F. went away today.
19th Jan
Sketched in afternoon at Karnak (Tomb). Sent away claim for kit to
Paymaster.
20th Jan
Told doctor that I wanted to rejoin Battalion- shall be going in a few
days. Sketched indoors all day. Had 3rd go at letter for Lizzie, Mills lent
Mrs. R (Roberts) his cardigan jacket sent him by Miss Ruby Knox Gore,
Coolcronan, Ballina, Ireland.
21st Jan.
Sketched from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Had all sorts of people to see my
pictures. Posted letters to Schwarz, Jack Hughes, Borthwick and Lizzie.
Received tonight 2 letters from L. dated 30th December and 1st and 2nd
January also 2 papers dated 26th December.
22nd Jan
Finished sketch of Sheiks Tomb today- went for a walk after tea and found
a nice place to sketch looking downstream. I hope I get time to do it
before leaving Luxor. Starting to answer Lizzie's letters.
23rd Jan 1916- Sunday
Sent home 7 pictures,this book, one large photo of Luxor Temple, seven
films and 43 postcards.
