Had some rain. Herefords on our left had 4 casualties last night. We had
two men badly wounded during day. 14th Sikhs relieved Ghurkas this evening.
5th Nov
Plenty of fireworks here. Lovely day, very warm. Posted letters to:-
Lizzie, Shan, Rice, Annie and Troughton. Went round trenches with the Major
at 9.45 p.m. Returned at 11 p.m. 'C' company were wiring in front of their
line. Quiet night.
6th Nov.
One of aeroplanes had to come down. I fancy Turks hit it. Heavy guns firing
mostly all afternoon, quite enough to deafen one. Sent letter to
Association Records and A.D.O.S.
One killed and 1 wounded 1/5th R.W.F.
One killed and 1 wounded Herefords.
High explosives at communication trench- bad spot. Quiet night- usual
rifle fire all the time. Wrote letter to Lizzie.
7th Nov. Sunday
Posted letter to Lizzie. (Some ) Herefords killed and one wounded. Heavy
guns at work all morning and mostly during afternoon. Lovely day but
colder. Heavy rifle fire from 2 to 4 a.m.
8th Nov
Usual gun firing by day also little rifle fire. 4 guns not far from my
dugout- they are enough to deafen one. 72(?) R.W.F. one or two casualties.
Nothing of importance otherwise. Heard 250, 00 Russians had landed at
Bulgaria.
9th Nov.
One prisoner taken by Private Lavin 'B' Coy, yesterday had in possession
rifle and fixed bayonet and 2 bombs. Usual gun and rifle fire day and
night.
10th Nov.
Dull day and a little rain. One man wounded at refuse pit in our trench
close to Headquarters. Lots of gun and rifle fire day and night. Rain
11th Nov.
Fine day and warm. Young Horner gone to hospital. Went to Brigade H.Q.
about Lady Hamilton's gifts - got 20 boxes -went at 4.30 to meet party to
carry them up to Coys. (Companys). Have a bad cough-had it for days.
