                                     Aug 17-1918.

 My Dear Son

              I have just spent about an hour packing up a few

articles which is much out of my line but which I hope you

receive quite safely. The 3 Books which I send are what I think

you require + Includes Duncans advanced Mechanics

I note from the few remarks which you make that you

are Quite out of the world + to me appear not to be far

from the Swiss Frontier.

I have to complain about the meagre accounts you send

on, surely there is something of interest you can write about,

youself- your work- The Party Routine- Men you have met

The impressions The change has made upon you, etc. I did

think when I received your last letter that you where

going to say something of interest but no the thing

foggled out at a page + a half unsigned + unfinished 

Alice s - the same  not every the usual will write more

fully later, you have no Idea of the difficulty of

writing to a person who says Nnothing - it is equal

to talking to a dumb man  + no more + If you

dont improve very shortly I shall turn this job

over to your Mother as it is getting beyond me;

I have just found out that pencil + Rubber have not being

included in your parcel so I will arrange to send these

on Monday under separate Cover.

We have not very much news at this end to transmit

We started holiday on Friday Morning first thing

Herbert was the first to go. Starting at 8:15 for Liverpool

in the hope of getting to the Ilse of Man which
