                                  1876 - 1933/4
  6th October, 1894  Joined the Loyal North Lancashire Regt.
                                   Given regimental number 4646.
                                   Served first engagement of 12 years (including
                                   3 years and 342 days abroad) being discharged
                                   On 5th October. 1906.
                                   Medals awarded: Queen's South Africa medal
                                                                  with Cape Colony clasp.
                                                                  King's South Africa medal
                                                                  on 10th Feb. 1902.
                                   Conduct on discharge: "Very Good"
  18th August, 1914  Re-enlisted in Loyal North Lancashire Regt.
                                    Given regimental number 2838.
                                    Taken prisoner either at Le Cateau or 1st
                                    Battle of Mons and interned at the infamous
                                    Camp at Wittenburg for the duration of the war.
                                    Discharge on 14th April, 1919 and transferred
                                    to Z Reserve.
                                    Medals awarded: 1914 Star
                                                                    British War Medal
                                                                    Victory Medal
  Could he have been entitled to another medal on the occasion of
  Queen Victoria's Jubilee? My mother always said that he paraded at
  Queen Victoria's funeral in London.
  
  John Johnson subsequently worked as a foundry labourer until his
  death in 1933 or 1934. he and Grandma had 12 children and my
  mother was the last one to die. She was 93 years old and passed away in 2006.
