14th Oct.
7th Battalion coming tonight from Lemnos. I draw their food, wood etc. Took
some Kit inventory. Aeroplane has gone from Salt Lake. Nothing unusual.
15th Oct.
7th Battalion came in at 5 a.m. Took balance of Kit inventories today.
Turks shelled wood and camps near our lines. I forgot to say 2(nd)
Herefords were hit (one badly) just below our latrines yesterday. A most
hard camp to keep clean but Sergeant Catherwood (a good hard working old
soul) manages it A.1. Schwarz seems alright again but has a harrassed look
about him and is not at all lively,fancy he's down in the dumps a bit.
Sent L. a letter also parcel Jacket, Breeches , Hook Spurs and whip. Second
dose of inoculation against Cholera.
16th Oct.
Enemy aeroplane came over. Our gun made good shooting but did not bring it
down. Received 1st parcel from home also received letter from L. and
Abbott. Delighted with parcel, wife knows my weakness for sweets etc.
Navy's gun is busy tonight in Gulf of Saras firing on the pimple "Jephoons
Post".
17th Oct . Sunday.
Morning opened with very heavy shelling by the Turks, little damage as far
as I can gather. Sent letters to L. and Abbott.
18th Oct.
Usual intermittent shelling during day. Weather much colder. Spent
afternoon sewing.
19th Oct.
Received letter from L. dated 27th Sept., also some papers. Cold and windy
day. Nothing unusual to note.
20th Oct.Started letter for L., did not finish it- too busy. Still very cold an
strong wind. Both sides very quiet, saw flashes from our own guns
bombarding Bulgarian coast about 8 p.m.
21st Oct.
Alarm took place. T.H. Parry and H.M. Davies rejoined us. Fenwick took over
mess cooking. Parry came to lunch and was delighted. Very windy day also
very cold. Posted letters to L. and King.
