recover their lost ground , 2nd Lieut. Pollard and his small
garrison succeeded in holding them back. He did not
leave the bombing post until the whole position had been
consolidated and fresh barricades had been erected.
By his splendid example and utter contempt for
danger, 2nd Lieut. Pollard infused courage into every man
who saw him, and it was due entirely to him that
the British were able to retake and retain this vital
portion of their line.
