Investiture at Paddington

  A CEREMONY of which proud memories will long

remain took place in the General Meeting Room at Paddington

Station in the forenoon of Saturday, February

23rd, when General Sir 

Francis Lloyd, representing 

H.M. the King, pinned Military

Medals to the breasts of 

seven Great Western men,

whose conspicuous gallantry

and devotion to duty on the

battlefield had won them 

these honours. Another

Great Western man was congratulated

upon having won

the Distinguished Conduct

Medal, and to Mr. George

Boxall, the Company's late

chief cashier, was handed

the Military Cross awarded

to his son, who had been

killed in action.

  The ceremony was witnessed

by the Viscount

Churchill, G.C.V.O. (Chairman

of the G.W.R.

Company), Sir Ernest Palmer,

Bart. (Deputy Chairman),

Mr. Frank Potter

(General Manager), other 

chief officers of the Company,

Captain F. T. Barrington

Ward and other officers of the

G.W.R. Volunteer Company,

and a goodly number of the 

staff at Paddington, many of 

whom were in khaki.

  The awards were to members

of the G.W.R. Engineering Department

attached to the 262nd (G.W.R.) Company, Royal 

Engineers, and were as follows -

MILITARY CROSS

 2nd-Lieut. A. Boxall, assistant 

to divisional engineer,

Shrewsbury (killed in action).

DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT 

MEDAL

Sergt. W. Whitehead, permanent

way foreman, Didcot

(not present).

MILITARY MEDAL

Sergt. C. Duke, relaying

ganger, St. Blazey.

Sergt. C. Greening, leading

relaying labourer, Gloucester

Corpl. W. J. D. Brush,

draughtsman, Bristol

Corpl. W. Betteridge,

packer, Cheltenham

2nd Corpl. B. Blood,

bridgeman, Wolverhampton
