Though Fritz declares that France is done,
and smittem England plainly totters.
While all who war against the Hum,
are absolutely hopeless matters,
He has to own our stern Blockade,
Which names all his hate and loathing,
Has starved a most essential trade
And kept him mighty short of clothing.
------------------------
No Hum can swank in leather boots
Unless his ... is extensive,
and tweed or even cotton suits
Have grown incredibly expensive.
So substitutes must needs be sought
and Fritz makes shift to wrap his body
In robes which running hands have wrought
From some ingenious paper shoddy,
--------------------------
The mouthing of his reptile Press,
The Kaiser's latest proclamation,
The Hymns of hate and bitterness
Find new and useful occupation:
and when the latest modes are shown
By tailor, bootmaker, or draper,
Our Fritz at least will gladly own
Some virtue in a scrap of paper!
