War means sacrifice. Every man who enters
the service lays at the feet of his country his hopes,
his ambitions, his life. this is fully understood and
yet it lessens but little the sense of loss when the
supreme sacrifice is made.
The town of Walpole has inscribed on its
Roll of Honor the name of
Patrick J. Hogan
Private, 305th Inf. Machine gun Co. A. E. F. (killed in action Oct. 30, 1918.)
May his allegiance to the great cause for which he
gave his life prove a source of consolation to his family
and may the sacrifice he made serve as an inspiration to
the young men of Walpole to preserve the high ideals
for which he and other gave their lives.
Given at Walpole the 8th of September 1920
