I know this sounds like a
trite statement to you but
it is profoundly true, true
whether we consciously realize
it or not. We can not
help influencing our children by
the lessons in history, in reading
and in biography which we teach
them. Many of us remember how
we were taught to hate England
from our study of the Revolutionary
War, and how we
could see only one side to the
Civil War, how we longed to
hang Jeff Davis to a sour
apple tree while we went
marching along with John
Brown's body. The temper
