Drowns beyond the hills of Death,

So the anguish of the night

Throb beneath the lesser light;

Till the sun, rising again,

Nearer brings the Son of Man.

THE GLORY OF GOD

 

In a stable dark and mean,

Near two thousand years ago,

The Lord of Love and Light was seen

First in flesh by folk below.

 

Soft the Virgin Mother glows

O'er the Darling of her breast,

Clear from Him a radiance flows

Sprung from neither East nor West.

 

Comes a tap upon the door,

Certain simple shepherds stand
