11th Nov.  (cont)

Its a sight to see the men in the trenches looking through their clothing

hunting lice. This is an everyday occurrence now. Turks fired trench mortar

over Herefords as I was returning from B.H.Q.

Herefords while out sapping tonight came across about 36 bodies and had to

bury them, no doubt been there since 21st August - all Britishers.

12th Nov

One Turk found dead in front of Herefords trenches this morning. A L/Cpl of

6th R.W.F. killed in our line , this being where he had no business to be. A

snipers dog was shot about  7 a.m. 20 yards in front of No 25 Bay (B Co.)

Major Borthwick seedy with jaundice , my butcher also seedy. Guns between

2 & 3 fairly ploughed up the Turks trenches in front of Sikhs quite close

to us, only 400 yards away. Heavy rain for an hour today-trenches all

mud. Posted letter to Lizzie- expecting mail up tonight. Mail arrived.

13th Nov

Received letter from L. dated 19, 10, 15 and am answering today- stormy

weather- no casualties among aur men. Guns very busy playing on trenches

in front of Sikhs all afternoon- any amount of dead of both sides found

again probably from 21.8.15

14th Nov. Sunday.

Cold day very cloudy and not much sun. Guns busy as usual especially during

afternoon. Received letter from L. dated 14th Oct. Posted letter to Lizzie

this morning.

15th Nov

Guns and rifles fairly going about 3 a.m. 'B' Coy, moved into support, 'A'

Coy, went to firing line to relieve 'B'. Dull windy day. Posted letter to

Lizzie this morning.

4.10 p.m. Turks shelled out supports - one shrapnel burst all round me

outside dugout. One H.E. (High explosive) burst  quite close to dugout- no

damage. One man hit in upper part of left arm, 834 Jones 'B' Coy.

5 p.m. Mines exploded by our chaps at Hill 60. Lively half hour. Guns,

machine guns, bombs and rifles going all round.

8 p.m. Vry heavy thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and vivid

lightning.

10 p.m. Very quiet except for snipers. 1 piece of high explosive and 2

shrapnel bullets came through the Mess roof, no one hit. Ration party had

lively time through shell fire on the beach.
