Monday noon 1917


My dearest Mother,

             Just a few lines to let you know that I am en route for France. I left Deaford 2:P30 AM & got here about 6 AM.

   I didnt think I would have time to write you this letter, so I wrote on a piece of paper a short message & gave it to a man to recopy & sent to you on a post card.

            I think we will embark sometime this afternoon, so now that I am really going to France for the present you can address me as Pte. J. ... 830617, 8th Battalion ..., France.
