hear comes the sad part of his life, in

the August war was declared I always well

remember it was on 3rd August Bank holiday

on a Monday which was my Mother's

birthday, then on the Tuesday Ted had

his letter to return to barracks for to go to

war, so on Wednesday morning Aug 5th

he left on the 1/2 past eight fast train to

Paddington that was when your Dad Ray

went to the station with him so they got

on the tram bar at the end of St. Bartholomew's

Road & who should get on the same tram

was Mr. Norris who lived in Bartholomew's

Rd & he was the Ideal Post Master so the

three of them went down together, but

just your dad went on down to the station

with him, Reg I have never forgotten that

morning Ted kissed us all goodbye, & in

Mary's hand Emily's mine he put a

gold sovereign & I still have it. Well that

was the 5th August & on the 12th he went to

France to war & on the 14th September he was

killed in action, but we did not hear that

he had been killed until the 9th Oct 1914,

we would be getting Post cards from him
