business at the present moment as the difficulties in connection

with getting things through seem nearly insurmountable.

I am now staying at the offices till I feel I  have

worked up having lunch there + getting home as a rule

anytime between Three + Five

I have just be noticing a youth called Clad or Chad

whose family live a saltane is Father is I believe a

Naturalised German (his mother an Englishwoman.)

who made a lot of money before the war in Continental

Trade (Wool) This was all cut off on the outbreak.

His money I understand tied up in Germany or elsewhere

with the result that his experience since

1914 has been a very painfull one. A. Moorhouse told

me on Sunday that he is now working for Buggs.

an engineer on Thornton Road. Well, this youth has

been invalided home discharged from the army

& from what I have seen does not look like

improving the family fortunes. I have watched him

for several weeks & I have come to the conclusion that

like Mr. Macawber he is waiting for something to

turn up. I quite anticipate that when demobilisation

does we shall find ourselves faced with a

lot of new problems. Which one experience in the past

has not qualified us to deal with. However this wont

occur in your case. There is a place for you both at

home & the works & I don't care how soon you are back

to claim them.

I will now leave this for the time being.
