                           July 1-1918

                        Thorn Mead Shipley

Dear Edgar

          I was very pleased to receive your last letter in which

you state you have got attached to a heavy lorry convoy + that

your probable destination is the South of France Timber haul-

-ing I hope this turns out correct + that the Billett proves

fairly comfortable - He recived notice last week that you

allottment for had been transferred from York to the ASC

section + your mother expects to recive this when she calls on

the 9th the monthly pay day. She has been looking very

anxiously for a letter the last few days + wonders why

you do not write , perhaps if your letters contained more

news the effect of them would be more enderring some

of your late effursions have been very barren

There is not much to report from this end- work is falling

off considerable at the works - Snowden is playing all

this week as we are Quite out of Smith work in point of

fact I have only had one enqury for any Smith work since

you left + that was for some Builders work

The M-G-M (Timber Controll) have refused Shay. + Law

permit to purchase any more Timber for Fire proof doors

+ last week I bought   Tinplates at equal to 103/6 a bose

which is abnormal I used to get these at under 2 of -I

do not know what will be the ultimate result but am

very much afraid that it means a stoppage in regard to

the Fireproof Don Trade.              April 29

I have Engineers to hand for 3 Staircaseses 2 for Dewsbury

+ me for Bingley otherwise their is not much work coming

to hand.
