          Certificate of  Identity for wife or child of a Soldier.

Notice: -This Certificate is Government Property. Ιt is no security whatever for Debt.

       Any person improperly detaining it as a pledge or security for debt is liable to a fine of

Twenty Pounds, or in the case of a second offence to imprisonment with hard labour for

 a term of Six Months.


       THIS IS TO CERTIFY that Mrs. Margaret Bales being the wife

of  No.  5481   Rank and Name Pte. J. Bales.

Regiment or Corps missing

Is entitled, subject to the Regulations, to payment of allowance at the Post Office

at  Drogheda.

            THE  PAYEE  SHOULD  CAREFULLY  READ THE

                     FOLLOWING  INSTRUCTIONS.

     1. Τhis Certificate is the authority for the issue to you of

your  weekly allowance.

     2. Payment is due each Monday, and will be made on production

of this Certificate at the Post Office selected for payment.

     3. Should you be ill and unable to go to the Post Office,

send someone  you can trust to the Post Office with your identity

Certificate, to ask the Postmaster for the Army Allowance Form,

so that you can sign the Form and get the Sick Certificate on the

back signed also. The Postmaster will hold the Certificate until

the signed Form is brought back to him. Then he will return it

to the bringer with the money for you.

    4. As payment cannot be made without this Certificate it

should be taken great care of. If it is lost you should at once

inform the issuing office and also the Postmaster.

    5. Νotice should be given to the Postmaster in any case where

it is desired to change the Post Office at which payment is made.

    6. No person is entitled to receive two separation allowances

(whether Army or Navy) at different Post Offices. Where the

regulations permit more than one allowance  to be drawn, all

allowances must be drawn at the same Post Office.

    7. When writing about these allowances always quote the

number of this Certificate and state the soldier’s regimental

number, full name, regiment, and the Post  Office at which

payment is made. Any change of address should be at once

notified to the issuing office.

    8. Any circumstance affecting the rate of the allowance, such

as the birth or death of  a child, should be reported at once to the

issuing office. A person who continues to draw Separation

Allowance for a dead child is liable to prosecution.

    9. This Certificate must be returned to the issuing office

directly the spaces for the Post  Office Stamp have all been filled

up or directly the allowance ceases to be payable.

    10. In the case of invalided soldiers  Separation Allowance is

continued for two weekly payments after the date of discharge;

but, with this exception, if the soldier is discharged, or transferred

to the Army Reserve, you are not entitled to continue to

draw Separation Allowance, and you should at once return this

Certificate to the issuing office. Any attempt to procure irregular

payment after the soldier’s discharge may be made the

subject of legal proceedings.

    11. Separation Allowance ceases to be payable if a soldier

Deserts, and any person who knowingly draws Separation Allowance

during a period of desertion will become liable to be prosecuted

for obtaining such allowance by fraud.
