Description

Photograph of King Ferdinand I of Romania in military attire. 
King Ferdinand (1916-1927) was the second king of Romania, after Carol I (1866 - 1916). During the first two years of the Great War Romania remained neutral - a compromise between the pro-German position of King Carol, and the pro-Allies tendency of the political class and public opinion. As Ferdinand came to the throne, this frail balance shifted and Romania entered the war on August 14th 1916.
