Pasco Rogulj (from Prapatnica near Trogir) finished seaman's

training 1914 at Pula.  His first voyage was aboard SMS Kaiserin

Elisabeth to Tsingtau (Chingdao) to "show the flag" at German

colony of Kiaochao. Shortly after arrival war broke out and

Japanese besieged Tsingtau. Kaiserin Elisabeth crew removed

guns from ship and scuttled her.  Quickly captured, Austrian and

German crewmen became prisoners of war and were transported

to Japan.  They remained there at Himeji and Aonagahara[SIC] until

1920, when they were returned home on a French ship.  Pictures

and documents in this collection belonged to Pasco Rogulj.

Avoiding subsequent service in the Yugoslav or Italian navies,

Rogulj traveled to France in 1922 and thence to the US,

Line half cut where he became a US citizen.
