Description

Cartoon pen and ink drawing showing a soldier in World War I Scottish uniform, complete with boots, calf-length socks, kilt, jacket showing corporal's stripe, and Glengarry hat. Over his left shoulder is slung a rifle, over his left a backpack with German 'Pickelhaub'-style helmet hanging from the bottom. The solder has a cigarette in his outh and is standing on a full-size set of scales, staring at the weight dial.  Underneath is the exclamation, "Hoots - But th' army's the life fer me - I were nine stone when I joined oop, 15 th' noo!"

The drawing is signed 'F.W. H. Somerset L. J.  Dec 1st 17'.
