Dear Mother,
I have now been four days in
Cambrai, and am getting along splendidly.
It is something to have a roof over one's
head again, as we have now, and although
it is only a bare room, still it is a much
nearer approach to "home" than a canvas
tent was. There are only five of us in
this house, so we have plenty of room, and
it is astonishing how comfortable we have
been able to make it already. Each of us
has a nice little chair, there is a round table
in the centre of the room, while a cheery
fire burns in an old petrol tin in the
hearth. A cupboard belonging to the house
serves to keep our dishes and our few
eatables. We have a back door and front
