Last letter home from Jeremiah Daly to his wife from Western Front, purple pencil on brown paper
September 30th, 1914
Dear Mary,
I have just received your
second supply of tobacco & PC thanks
very much for same. I have just received
a P.C. dated 18th Sept. from you but not
written by you it is very good and made
me very happy to know that all at
home are proud of us we are doing
our best and hope to have it soon
finished what a take I will have to
tell you when I get back of course
youcan see everything in the papers I have
seen a paper since I left: we get two
ounces of tobacco per week here well
you know that wouldn't to me three
days do you see the bit you sent me
just pulls me through but it is
not possible to get a match so if you
could manage some matches for me
they would be very welcome do
get my allotments remember me to
all I know. I wonder where is
tommie I am not with Annie Piles
Husband now and keep me in there their
memory so as they will not forgetI hope you are keeping quite well and
kiddies I am keeping quite well I am
surprised at must other but_______________________________________________
