Dear Ford:

      I was very pleased

to get your letter which you

sent along by Jack Abbott.

It was the first line Id

had from any of the boys

since I was wounded so

you can guess I was glad

to get a little news of the

old Batt. Well I was

glad to hear you were going

strong yourself and trust

you will come through alright

at the end  (if the end ever

comes) As you will perhaps

know I clicked a nasty

packet when that trench

mortar settled down beside

me. The stretcher bearer

worked hard to get me down

to the aid post and

eventually we got there
