    To sat the least of it, my

  writing is execrable; but this is

  a very obvious remark. I have

  scarcely used a pen during the

  past three years, so we are not

  accustomed to each other. In many

  camps prisoners of war are not

  permitted to use pen and ink. Here,

  however, one may. I hope that
  you will like and be able to 

  read my maiden effort.

        We all appreciate the walks

  outside of the camp. They last
